Dr. C. D. Shane, Lick Observatory, Mt. Hamilton, Cali- fornia, communicates via the Harvard Observatory that Wir- tanen has found a rapidly moving object in the following position: 1950 UF 1950.0 6 1950.0 Mag.

Rinehart was appointed Assistant Director of the Astrophysical Observatory, and Dr. James E. Zimmerman is the third member of the scientific staff assigned to Harvard. Measurement of the "solar constant," i.e., the output of energy by the sun, has been a major effort of the Astrophysical Observatory of the Smithsonian Institution.

Another station of the Observatory is at Oak Ridge, 25 miles west of Cambridge, in the town of Harvard, Massachusetts. In Cambridge, but west of Harvard Square, one may visit the Cambridge Station of the Astronomical Observatory, the Botanic Garden and Gray Herbarium, and the buildings of Radcliffe College.
