Fireproofing Building C. Since the first photograph of a star was made at Harvard in 1850 under the supervision of Professor George C. Bond, the Observatory has been a repository for an ever-growing collection of astronomical photographs.

Nevertheless, additional endowment is urgently needed. Without generous provision from the general funds of Harvard, the Observatory could scarcely more than exist on the now reduced income of $8600 from its general endowment. An income of this size might be thought adequate for a meteorological observatory.
