As associate director of the division, Professor Lilley initiated programs for development of a Bragg cell spectrum analyzer, an improved multichannel filter system for the Texas Millimeter Wave Observatory, and ground-based radio instrumentation to measure molecular gases in the stratosphere and mesosphere.

As the Draper Memorial investigations form one of the most note- worthy departments of the Harvard Observatory, and as these inves- tigations-under the direction of ProE E. C.
